COU Statement: Universities Excited to Work as Partners in the Expansion of Postsecondary Education

“The Ontario government’s plan to create new university-led postsecondary sites in the growing communities of Brampton and Milton is a key opportunity for universities, employers and communities to work together as partners for a brighter future for students, and for all Ontarians.

Global trends such as disruptive technology and artificial intelligence are changing the world we have known and a highly skilled workforce is more important to the success of the province than ever before.

By providing our students with increased access to postsecondary education that focuses on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) and is closer to the places they live and work, universities and the communities in which they are rooted will be helping students to acquire the talent and skills they need to better prepare for tomorrow’s world.

Our universities have a role to play in building a brighter future for us all and they look forward to working in partnership to develop proposals for the new sites, and to provide students with new learning options closer to home.”
