Ontario universities welcomed the announcement of the Ontario government’s new Life Sciences Commercialization Strategy, which provides a more strategic approach to leveraging cutting-edge university research discoveries and transforming them into products and services that create jobs in Ontario.
“The nexus of research and business is an important one for our province and these investments will help to advance both Ontario’s economic and health agendas,” said Bonnie Patterson, President of COU.
The $161 million strategy combines existing and new initiatives into a coordinated plan with four pillars including: attracting and nurturing scientific talent and expertise; facilitating greater collaboration; addressing financing challenges; and improving international marketing in the areas of health technology and medical devices.
“Our universities have a key role to play in this strategy as our researchers are on the leading edge in these areas and Ontario will benefit from increased efforts to take these innovations to market,” said Patterson.
