A new academic transfer agreement between Seneca and the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) will enable qualified students to receive both a college diploma and a university science degree in as little as four years.
“This new bachelor of science partnership with UTSC is the first-of-its-kind in Ontario, providing qualified Seneca students with a pathway to earn two postsecondary credentials in less time,” says Joy McKinnon, Seneca’s Vice-President Academic. “Seneca is the Ontario leader in university – college pathways and we’re pleased to provide our students with the opportunity to seamlessly pursue a U of T science degree.”
Under the agreement, graduates from Seneca’s brand new Arts and Science diploma program who meet certain admission requirements can enroll in courses at UTSC with joint university partnership status. Combined with the transfer credits acquired through this new program, students will receive both a Seneca diploma and University of Toronto honours bachelor of science degree in four years.
“We are very pleased to be able to expand our relationship with Seneca with this exciting new academic transfer program,” says Curtis Cole, UTSC registrar and assistant dean. “This agreement will provide greater access to higher education to a wider range of qualified students and will bring a new group of talented students to UTSC.”
The agreement builds on an existing transfer program established between the two institutions in 2012 for students enrolled in the Liberal Arts program at Seneca. The aim is to meet a long expressed need for greater recognition of the work college students have completed and to help facilitate a smoother transition when they chose to study at university.
The first cohort of students able to apply under this agreement includes those initially admitted to Seneca’s Arts and Science program for September 2015. For more information on the program, visit http://www.senecacollege.ca/fulltime/ASU.html.
