On behalf of Ontario’s universities, the Council of Ontario Universities (COU) congratulates Premier Kathleen Wynne and the provincial Liberals on their election victory.
COU has forged a productive working relationship with the Liberal government, and is looking forward to continuing to work collaboratively to ensure our economy is strengthened as a result of the highly educated workforce our universities produce.
Ontario university graduates are in demand by employers. They possess the skills and knowledge to bolster today’s economy in new ways, creating their own jobs and jobs for others. Universities also are working collaboratively with colleges to increase pathways that allow students to customize their education and fulfil their personal and professional potential.
Premier Wynne has said she will re-introduce the 2014 budget, which has a jobs and prosperity focus that aligns with Ontario universities’ focus on educating students with broad and flexible skills for future careers. The budget also committed additional funding to address critical maintenance repairs on campuses, as well as essential funding for research infrastructure.
