Distributed Medical Education: 2014 Report

More than a decade ago there was a shortage of doctors in the province. One in 11 Ontarians couldn’t find a family physician and there were lengthy wait times for specialty care; challenges to access were particularly acute in rural areas. Today, a strategic partnership of Ontario universities and government has turned this situation around. A significant investment in medical school expansion, family medicine expansion and socially responsible medical education is leading to improved access to care closer to home.
